Dental hygiene treatment is the most effective way for you to find out about the health status of your gums and supporting structures of your teeth (periodontium). It pays to know about any issues early, as they can be dealt with more easily, more effectively, and at a lower cost. After having your teeth and gums examined by the dentist, you may be recommended to have your teeth professionally cleaned by the dental hygienist.

The Dental Hygienist;

  • Removes the build-up of soft and hard plaque via scaling and ‘prophylaxis’ (polishing)
  • Assesses & manages periodontal health (imperative in maintaining the ‘foundations’ of our teeth)
  • Educates patients on ways to improve their oral hygiene and maintains healthy gums and jawbone to prevent tooth loss
  • Stain removal and teeth whitening
  • Fluoride treatments to decrease risk of dental caries (tooth decay)

Sometimes more than one dental hygiene appointment is required, the dentist will provide you with a personalised treatment plan appropriate for your oral condition.
